Sister Shurtz shows the Assistants how to use the binding machine.  They are working on a project using QR codes that the missionaries can use when contacting people.  Since they don't have smart phones, but most people do, they can have the people scan the QR code with their phone and it will take them to a church video or website.  They want each companionship to have a little booklet of various QR codes. When we got out of the temple on Tuesday night, Elder Shurtz saw that he had missed a phone call from the Sisters serving in the Haaga ward (our area). They called again about the time we got home. They had locked their keys in their apartment. We hoped that we would find a third key at the mission office. It turns out that we don't have a third key to that apartment. It was late and they didn't know the phone number for the service guy for their apartment building.  We ended up going and picking them up and gathering things from our apartment and t...

Heat Wave!

Monday started very early as we picked up Sisar Potter at 4:30 at her apartment.  We made it to the airport in good time and Pres. and Sisar Aura met us there.  KLM was having computer issues and the kiosk only printed out one luggage tag,  so we had to stand in line with everyone else who had similar problems.  We waiting in line for over an hour before she was able to get her bags checked in. At least the security line was only 2 minutes long. We are missing her so much! On Monday night, the Assistants came by to borrow the bikes that the Londons had left.  They needed them for the "mini-missionaries" to use.    We got a pallet of cases of copies of the Book of Mormon this week  as well as several packages and orders for Supplies that Sisar Potter would have usually take care of.  It is keeping us busy, especially on Thurs and Fri when Sisar Herttuainen is not in the office. On Wednesday, we also took th...

A Hug From My Mom

We love seeing the wildflowers! Some of the things we see are actually weeds, but they are still beautiful, and if they are growing in a field maybe they can still be considered wildflowers. On Monday, we had treats at the office to recognize what a great missionary Sister Potter has been.  She leaves to go home tomorrow. Sister Shurtz made brownies and caramel sauce.  Elder Shurtz made apple crisp and Sister Herttuainen brought ice-cream.  Sister Shurtz read a Dr. Seuss style tribute that she had written for Sister Potter. It turned out pretty good, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Most importantly Sister Potter seemed to enjoy and appreciate it.  On Wednesday we took a final office picture since it was the last day that all of the office staff would be together. On Thursday, our day was a little different than usual. We had new missionaries arriving. These missionaries were scheduled to arrive in June, but their visas didn...
