Suomenlinna

Monday was sisar Nielson's birthday. We invited sisar Nielson and sisar Perron to come for dinner.
We had sisar Potter join us. We sure enjoy associating with the young missionaries. We love serving in these sister's area.

Vanhin Shurtz tried something new for breakfast the other day. These are cinnamon biscuit fans.
They were an interesting change from our usual breakfast rotation.
Another interesting thing that we have had for breakfast is a different kind of peach.
It has an interesting shape. Here is one that is cut in half.

We had a busy week at the mission office, but no pictures to go with it.
We do have some pictures from our outing on Saturday though.

On Saturday, we planned to go with Sisar Potter to Helsinki so she could buy some t-shirts to take back for her family.
It had rained several days this past week and it looked like there were going to be thunder storms on Saturday.
We woke up to a beautiful day, so we decided to take the train to Helsinki
and then take the ferry out to Suomenlinna and then go shopping on the way home.

Suomenlinna is an inhabited sea fortress built on six islands which now forms part of the city of Helsinki. Building of the fortress was started by Sweden in 1748. It is a UNESCO World Hertage site and is a popular place for tourists and locals.

We walked from the train to the kauppatori. We passed Stockmann department store on the way and decided to go in to see what it was like. Vahnin Shurtz found a reindeer so wanted his picture taken with it.
Maybe someday we will see a real reindeer. 😏

Sisar Potter and Sisar Shurtz on the ferry ride to Suomenlinna.

One of the first things that we saw was this beautiful tree full of blossoms.

Vanhin Shurtz at Augustin Ehrensvärd's (who I believe was the creator of the fortress) grave at Suomenlinna.

We saw a family of geese. They are quite different from the canadian geese that we used to see all the time in Illinois.

When we got back to the kauppatori, we found some crepes for lunch while Sisar Potter started her souvenir shopping. We got a savory (vegetarian) crepe and a sweet (apple & rhubarb) crepe. Yummy!

In the souvenir shop, Vanhin Shurtz and I went downstairs to look at the Christmas shop.
Vanhin Shurtz was quite interested in the wall in the basement.
It looked like the wall was the actual granite that was cut away to form the basement.

We want you to know that we love the Lord and are grateful for this opportunity to serve as His full-time representatives. We know that we are each children of a loving Heavenly Father. We know that Jesus Christ is our elder Brother.
We are grateful for the help of the Lord as we serve in the mission office. We love this experience.
