Enjoying the Summer that "Failed to Install"

It seems that many of the blossoms that are out now are purple.
These are some of the blossoms that we saw on our walk on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, we noticed the purple contrasting with the white and yellow.
Much of the purple is from weeds, (burrs I think) but they are pretty right now.
Many of them are almost as tall as Elder Shurtz.
We have been wearing our jackets again this week as we have gone for walks.
This summer has been much different than last summer. It has been much cooler this year.
The high temperatures have mostly been in the 60s, with a couple of days in the high 50s.
The lows are often in the upper 40s or low 50s.
If it gets up to the low 70s and the sun is shining, we think it is hot!
(I am not sure how we will handle the heat when we get home.)
I saw this picture today after I had typed this.
We are loving the summer that failed to install.
There have been a few days when we have been a bit too cold, but for the most part,
the temperatures are nice springtime temperatures and there is lots and lots of daylight!
On Monday morning, we walked behind the school that we pass on our walks.
We noticed something interesting about the roof that we had not noticed before.
It has plants growing on it.

On Monday, we had Family Home Evening at our apartment.
We discussed developing Christlike attributes.
We had rhubarb crisp for dessert.
We realized that we had forgotten to take any pictures.
We got a picture of the Gibbs, but everyone else had already left.
We tried a new kind of cereal. We had bought some barley months ago to use in a recipe.
I noticed recipes for porridge on the box.
I got Sister Laitinen to help me know what they said, and we decided to try to oven porridge.
It was cooked in milk.
We found it interesting that it formed this skin which kept expanding and then collapsing.
It was quite interesting to watch.
On Saturday, we decided to work on cleaning up in the varasto
while there is not a big pile of boxes of the Book of Mormon.
(We have ordered more and are just waiting for them to come.
We hope they come soon, as we are completely out of Finnish copies.)
We forgot to take a before picture.
Elder Shurtz got all the boxes of paper to move to the bottom shelf.
Here are just some of the empty boxes that Elder Shurtz took to the recycling.
Sister Shurtz worked on cleaning out all the old pass along cards
and other old materials that we haven't used since we have been here.
This is just one of many boxes of the pass along cards.
We would like President Aura to take a look to verify that we should get rid of them..
After dinner on Saturday, we decided to go for a little hike.
We drove about 5 minutes from our house to a trail that Elder Shurtz had found on the internet.
We walked past a field that had cows in it.
We followed the trail to a place where there was a bird watching tower.
This is the view just one level up.
We could see lots of geese and ducks in the water.

We followed the trail to this building.
Elder Shurtz was interested in this because this housed the model of the planet Uranus.
You can see on this map where the sun and other planets are.
Elder Shurtz is pointing at Uranus, which is where we are on our hike.
The trail took off on a boardwalk that went through lots of tall marsh grass.
It got taller, the further we went.
We were glad for the nice walkway.
We noticed that they were mostly purple, white, or yellow.
As we were getting back to where the car was parked, we noticed this massive uprooted tree.
It looked like it had tipped over not too long ago.
Elder Shurtz went to stand by it so you could get some perspective as to how big it was.
We attended the Haaga Ward today to hear Elder and Sister Lewis speak in Sacrament meeting.
It was so interesting to hear a little about their conversion stories.
Plus it is always fun to visit the ward because we have so many good friends there.
Today in Espoo the sunrise was at 4:20 and the sunset at 22:32 for 18:12 hours of daylight.
In Provo, the sunrise was at 6:08 and the sunset at 20:55 for 14:47 hours of daylight.
