"Trial Subscription Has Ended" and "Sauna in a Van?"

As you will recall, on July 14, I posted this
It seemed like a very good explanation. After Mom and Kimberly visited us, it turned off really nice.
It was beautiful and warm for juhannus (midsummer). So it seemed like summer was "installing" nicely.
wasn't too long after that, that we had to start wearing jackets again in the morning.
It seemed so strange to be so cool in July! I liked the failed to complete installation explanation.

Then, when I posted on July 21. it seemed like summer had actually completely installed.
It was warm and we no longer needed jackets or sweaters.
Last Sunday, I think the high was right around 90 degrees F.
It was very uncomfortable at church where there is no air conditioning or fans.

Monday, the temperature was much cooler, with a high of 68 degrees.
And by Tuesday morning, it felt as if the message now said:
"We're sorry, your trial subscription of Finnish Summer has ended.
The full subscription version will not be available again until next year.
Try back then."

Tuesday the high was 61.
By Wednesday morning, it was in the low 40s when we went for our walk and it was feeling rather chilly!
We even saw several signs of fall as we were walking. I think they appeared overnight!

I was interested in how the purple weed flowers were changing.

I also saw this new plant that I haven't noticed before. Does this turn into a burr?

Every day last week, we had tried to get to the office early,
because I was thinking the Book of Mormon order might arrive.
(This was an extra order this month because we had run totally out and we needed to get our supply back up.)
Well, Monday we were running a bit late and as we got close to the office, we could see the truck.
We were grateful to see that Sister Laitinen was there and that the pallet had already been delivered.
We worked to get them all stacked in the varasto.
This is Sister Laitinen's, (and our) last Book of Mormon order.
Our stack has not been this high for quite a while.
Sister Laitinen has been teaching Sister Saarnivaara how to do all the things that she has been doing.
On Tuesday, Sister Saarnivaara made the posti label with Sister Laitinen just supervising.
Success!

Elder Shurtz has been working with Sister Laitinen and Sister Saarnivaara since last transfer to try to obtain parking for some Sisters in Tampere.
It has been ridiculously difficult!
Sister Laitinen said she gave up. Sister Saarnivaara kept working at it and trying different things.
Finally on Wednesday, Sister Laitinen got word from the Sisters that they had a parking permit!
We wanted to celebrate!
We all paused and had a prayer of thanks!
And, we got a picture of the 3 who had been working on the problem.
(This is not the actually parking permit, just a representation of the success.)

On Friday morning, we left early so we could meet the mission van at the train station
to give a package to the North Zone Leaders to take back with them.
This was the view as we were walking up the hill.

Elder Fitzpatrick and Elder Bäckström already had quite a stack of materials to take with them on the train. The small priority envelope package looked small compared to what they already had.

We got great news this week.
Elder and Sister Perkins visas were granted and they are coming!
This has been an answer to prayer!
It was looking like we might possibly have to train them long distance, if their visas weren't granted in time.

We are busy trying to get things ready in our apartment and start packing so we will be ready when they arrive.
The drain on the sink has seemed to be fine, except for when the washing machine drains.
The washer drains into the pipe right beneath the sink.
Recently when it drains, some of the water backs up into the sink.
It seemed like it was getting worse.
The drains here are different than in the US, but are easy to take apart to clean them out.
Elder Shurtz took it apart so we could leave it clean.
As soon as he started to pull it apart, it was easy to see the problem.
There was a long snake of hair/lint/etc. YUCK!
I am surprised that the water seemed to be draining just fine from the sink itself.

We are also working on cleaning the windows.
Finnish windows are a great design for washing.
You use a little handle to unlatch the window and then it swings in on hinges.
There is the inner window (which you can see behind Elder Shurtz) which is a double pane window.
There are several inches of space between that window and the outside window.
The blinds are hanging on the outside of the inside window so they on in between the windows.

Many of the young single adults in the ward and stake attended Festinord (a YSA conference for the northern countries).
The conference was held in Malmö Sweden.
We had heard from the Jämsäs that the Finns had brought a portable sauna with them.
We got to see it after church.
They had built a wood burning sauna inside of a van!
They took the sauna with them. The Finns love sauna!
Amazing! A sauna in a van!

Well, it is starting to seem darker during the night now.
The sun rose in Espoo this morning at 5:06 in Espoo and it set at 21:46 for 16:39.
(By tomorrow, we start loosing 5 minutes a day.)
In Provo the sun rose this morning at 6:27 and it set at 20:37 for 14:10.
(They only loose just over 2 minutes a day.)
